Palm Assessment Forum

The Palm Assessment Forum has been created with the aim of providing a medium whereby palm experts can contribute information and provide input on the assessment and reassessment of palm species (see also: Objective of the Forum).

To facilitate use of existing information, the forum includes iNaturalist maps and records, where iNaturalist is a citizen-science initiative seeking to involve the general public in reporting sightings of plant and animal species all over the globe. The use of iNaturalist’s data is left to the expertsa discretion, and there is no requirement to use these data, although use is encouraged when sources and/or evidence provided are considered to be reliable. Published or draft IUCN species ranges are included in the maps to facilitate viewing.

Feedback compiled through the forum is used to update species assessments prior to following the appropriate channels (review process, consistency check) for publishing final assessments in the IUCN Red List.

NOTE ON TAXONOMY: The taxonomy used for the palm assessments follows the World Checklist of Selected Plant Families by Kew. For general information on taxonomy see Taxonomy in the IUCN Red List.
